Imagine Me With Wings Poem by Mark Heathcote

Imagine Me With Wings

Imagine me with wings
floating listlessly on the breeze
would you encapsulate me?
With songs or cages
would you allow my wings
to ensconce me ever forward
and be forever free, or would you
like a neglectful child imprison me
only to forget me completely
therefore before you desire me,
worship me from afar, for I am
an-unsolved-mystery and one
you must not cocoon in your heart.
The pendant that drives the elusive wind
moves both ways; and when it rests
does so steadily towards the middle.
Such is the flight of butterflies,
such is the movement of love,
the song of the flower, the bud
which encapsulates its blossoming hour.
