If You Were A Chess Piece Poem by Mark Heathcote

If You Were A Chess Piece

If you were a chess piece, what would it be?
King, rook, bishop, Queen, knight, or pawn
If you were a chess piece, what would it be?
Or would you pretend not to care and yawn?
Yawn like me.

Using cunning and strategy to reign
To rule supreme over your domain
Would you be clad in royal regalia?
Or suffer from the weaknesses of dyslexia
Oh, I'm a lonely foot soldier; show me something
More humbler and befitting.

Destiny waits on a magical board of 64 squares
Black or white, who best prepares,
Doesn't always win the game
But knowing your purpose can maim
Your opponent ultimately leads to a win.

If you were a chess piece, what would it be?
King, rook, bishop, Queen, knight, or pawn
If you were a chess piece, what would it be?
Truth, what matters is winning, not who you are.
