If Eyes Could Speak 2 Poem by Hafeni Nghidinua

If Eyes Could Speak 2

There is a tragedy in this world
That every eye speaks in silence
Subtly and unheard,
Oh if eyes could speak...

A knackered echo is heard
A beautiful fatigue of sorts
We are tired from it all
Oh, If eyes could speak...
Would they truly shout in joy?
Or whimper like the distant knell?

If my eyes could speak
They would best be left silent
I have nothing to give
To make this world more vibrant
I am a man, in the end
As defeated as the next

But your eyes do speak
And I'm perplexed by them
They are the carillon
The gale and the thunder
They are the mellifluous
That preaches chrysanthemums
And roses abundant

If eyes could speak...
Oh, If eyes could speak
Your eyes would speak to me
And mine filled with spartan
Would protest to the invasion
of the dulcet tunes
That sparks in me
emotions anew.

There is a tragedy in this world, after all
Every eye speaks in silence
And loss is a daily bread
But there is hope this tragedy
And there is victory in defeat
My melancholy gives way to alacrity
And I find comfort in your eyes
