Goodbye Poem by Hafeni Nghidinua

Goodbye

I hate the word goodbye
It always makes me cry
But you've been crying for the longest time
Now the time for fair well is ripe

Once upon a time you made me smile
In a land far away I was happy
Once upon a time we were happily ever after
Now happily ever after needs a tragic ending

If you are to be happy…

The bonds that held us, hold us no longer
I could feel your grip slowly loosen
Something called for just over the horizon
You'd stare past me and dream of it
I knew then that I was your prison
The joy I once gave you now turned to ashes

My heart begs me to be selfish
There is another way, it screams
But my eyes can see your silent anguish
My love I can see your hidden tears
And you can no longer deceive me
I'm blind no more, I can see

But my beating heart still screams
It questions the things I've seen
Maybe my mind plays tricks me
Maybe her smiles are genuine

Lies deceive
But Ignorance is bliss…

Some things just can't be understood
Why we love what we love, why we're moved when we're moved
I cannot control your heart any more than you can
But I can grant your heart what it craves

Once a while back we said goodbye
A goodbye driven by emotions gone a riot
Such a goodbye could never hope to last
My poison is you and back to you, I ran
And to me you ran, your prison to be

But now I can see
Though my heart does grieve
Ignorance is bliss
But my bliss is your prison
And I refuse to be your warden

So here I say the word I hate
I'll say it gently, gently I'll say:
It's time we say goodbye
My love do not cry
I will be fine

I promise...

Your joy is my joy
And your happiness is mine to share
Even if your happiness lies elsewhere

So the time for goodbye is ripe
And forever I say goodbye
And though we might both cry
You've been hurting for the longest time
So I'll break these chains and you run to the horizon
I do not know what called for you there
I do not know what it is you longed for
All I know is that it was not me…

Oh, the pain…

Goodbye my love, goodbye forever
