I Was There Poem by Brigid Walshe

I Was There

I was there

There was a time,
I was there.
A place devoid of reason.
In the emptiness behind the stars,
lays a blackness, to get lost in.
A desert of invisible hills,
so vast.
Breath strangles your chest,
trembling fear forces just one more step.
Darkness shrouds your path.
The slope unrelentling,
in front, nothingness.
Eyes unable to see.
Signposts in the soul blur.
Sleep, the solace of the lost,
Finding brightness in closed lids,
small respite from the dark.
Travelling alone calling for no anchor,
stars twinkle their light for others.
This space needs no logic,
Black holes have yet to be defined.
The child inside crying when the lights are out.
Stretch out your hand.
You can find your way home
I was there too.
