I Want To Build You A Temple Poem by Mark Heathcote

I Want To Build You A Temple

Love - I want to build you a temple
Out of the wind, the fire and the smoke
Love - I want to build you a sanctuary,
Where the winter can never near or follow
And the snow can never frost around you
I want to steer an ice-breaking boat
Around the Cape Horn
And be also rescued by you so strong.

Darling, what's an orphan?
Like you have to say about sinners and saints
Darling, which are you?
Love - I want to get down like the sun
Before its ascension and glow-resilient
Because darling, you are here with me today.
Love - I want to sleep under an animal's skin
And hear you tell me, this is wrong again?

But nobody, save me
Because like snowflakes
In the wind, I'm forming into stars
With nowhere else to go
But to drift into the wind
An illuminate your hair.
And soak the blood up from the ground.
