I See The Light Poem by Sierra Staten

I See The Light

I spent so long in the dark,
Both voluntary and not,
I became accustomed to it.
The dark was what I saw and sought-
For I had seen no other way long since.
Yet the light had been there for me
Always, the light was there.
Sometimes by candlelight, other sunlight-
What seemed gone was only overlooked.
And now, it illuminates the future,
What dark has come is gone.
The past is gone.
So I light up my future.
