I Once Stood Proud Like A Coastal Tree Poem by Marcus McKinley

I Once Stood Proud Like A Coastal Tree

Bending to the will of the off shore breeze
Spirited away beneath these skies
Falling endlessly into the depths of my soul
I know the sadness in your eyes

Glimpsing a heart emblazoned then crippled
I feel the love raining down upon my face
A chasm of confusion and mirrored illusions
Reflecting back a life of misery

I am moving on from this place
Having travelled these rough and lonely roads
There is no light or hope that can reach me
Soon to be a distant memory

And though I have fallen I will rise again
Amid the coming of the next Great Year
In the vein of mists and ocean spray
That ascend the shore lined cliffs of eternity
