I Love This Country Poem by Oluwagbemisola O. Lawal

I Love This Country

Rating: 5.0

In a land where irony reigns supreme,
Where contradictions dance and dreams convene,
I find myself captivated, bewildered, and lost,
In a country, where lines are crossed.

Oh, how I love this nation so,
Where terror's toll is deemed a status quo,
Three hundred souls lost, their blood stained soil,
Yet normalized, accepted, without turmoil.

In distant lands, a single soul's demise,
Sparks condolences, tears the world's eyes,
But here, dear friend, the story takes a twist,
Where indifference prevails, and empathy is missed.

I marvel at the paradox, the twisted view,
Where tragedy's magnitude depends on the hue,
For in this country, the more you seek,
The less you find, and the truth appears weak.

A nation shrouded in a cloak of deceit,
Where shadows dance, and honesty retreats,
Yet amidst the chaos, I find a love that's strange,
A fascination with the absurd, an allure that won't change.

For in this land, the contradictions thrive,
And in their midst, my heart does strive,
To illuminate the darkness, to question and to see,
The irony of a nation that's both flawed and free.

So, here's to this country, with its twisted ways,
To the contradictions that color our days,
For within the irony, a fire does burn,
A love for this land, though sometimes hard to discern.
