I'D Like To Set My Poems To Music Poem by bob barci

I'D Like To Set My Poems To Music

I'd like to set my poems to music like Melanie does,
but I can't play the guitar.
I'd like to set my poems to music like Donavan does,
but I can't write quite as well.
I'd like to give my words to a rock band,
but what's to say
they wouldn't play my Dylans
like a stoned Stone.
Whenever I read my words over again
I find myself adding a tune to them.
If I could write my own music and play the guitar
the strings would keep the words crystal clear and out of the dust.
I sense the light but I'm still blind to many a thing.
A keyboard and just six strings would bring some sight.
If I could set my words to music
I wouldn't feel so locked up inside.
I'd play a set of words for my friends
and they just might see some depth to me.
If you see someone like Melanie or Donavan,
tell them I got several sets of words
they can look through
if they want to.
I got the words if they gots the music.
