I Can'T Breathe Poem by Victoria Robbins

I Can'T Breathe

I can't breathe
Choking down my rage
Gasping, the air is thick
Tension crackling like lightning
I bite my tongue
Bide my time
Hold it back
He speaks his mind, his
Tiny, ignorant, manipulative mind
How dare he
Try to make me ashamed of
Who I am
Who am I?
He knows, he uses
My weaknesses to his advantage
After all, who will they believe?
He's clever with words
With his words, before their eyes, red turns to blue
The fox is the rabbit
And the rabbit is the bear
Who will they believe?
Not me, too small
A child's words
Mumbling of injustice
Are no match
For the snake's silver tongue
The spider's expertly spun web
It is beautifully deceptive
Clench my fists, push away
The overwhelming hatred
Smoldering deep inside
Don't let him see
Feeling is weakness
The shark senses blood
Tantalizing prey
Nowhere to run
I can't breathe
