Hurricane Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Hurricane

one of the gravest threats to humanity is taught
entering into our minds playing like a record
programming our natural thoughts
it is not a crime to be human
but being racist is, it's a plague designed to conflict
a persons mind to believe they are less

no rest for the wicked trespassing's restricted
but the obsession drives the passenger into breaking law
Overpowered by thoughts of lustful obscenities
on a hunt to quench their thirst for fleshly pleasures

it comes easy to some, others find their sexuality hard to grasp
but when there's an explicit reaction to your nature
they'll be expressions of doubts and even an extreme self-hate
that swallows you whole, it's a grey area not many understand

It must be hard to put on a smile hiding the pain everyday
thinking in silence would anyone care if you died
Depression that settles make you want to just slip away
emotions overwhelm you until you want to commit suicide

homeless, hungry and scared sometimes with poverty
people get into crime, prostitution and drugs
it's not always the case a few have different stories
worst case scenario, most even pull the plug

if your parents leave, you want to know what happened
because all of them years you've spent crying
Never understanding the reasons why you were abandoned
life can get hard stick in there and keep trying

anytime you're feeling your mouth work faster than your mind
you have surrendered to your temper, your hearts filled with anger
inhale, exhale, breathe, think of positive things, mantras design
Is to quell that intense energy help channeling it in a tame manner

Hurricane comes through with winds so strong
The damage is done but you will recover
and though things have your spirits down
you have the resolution to turn the beat around
