Hospitable To Fools Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Hospitable To Fools

Don't bring your ego to my doorstep.
After accepting my respect to trash.
Perhaps one day you will realize,
What I give that is heartfelt...
Can be taken away.
In a flash before you bat an eyelash.
My patience to tolerate,
Thoughtless to dismiss it.
Isn't easily forgiven.
Nor is it forgotten to forget.
And there will come for you time to remember.
What you get to take for granted,
May require you to go through many tests.
To then request,
My acceptance of your apology.
If,
The tone of it...
I detect something in your voice,
Recognizes the fool I knew you to be.
And only then,
Both of us will believe with clarity...
Your limited ego does nothing for me.
Or to others,
Who don't waste their time staying to remain...
Hospitable to fools.
Or their association with ignorance.
