Heartfelt Blues Poem by Steve Gregory

Heartfelt Blues

The band around her finger sent tears down her face
Her memories were causing those red, red eyes
Yes, the band around her finger sent tears down her face
As her memories came, half in, half out
She saw his pale back in the sunlight
She saw his tall form in the night
And she grabbed those fleeting moments
And held them to her chest as
She saw his face reflected in the low
Ceiling light, she knew she had
To hold the memory before her feet went cold
And wet tears again rolled down her face.
No more thoughts of regret at things left
Unsaid, or touches unfelt.
The hard times melted in the light of the good
Love would not give up on her
And she would not give up on love.
Though the band around her finger caused
Her some pain, it was melting as
She remembered that he had only gone
For a while. Before her memory, sometimes
It starts to fade, the man who put
That band on her finger did not
Belong in a grave. The place where
She kept him was in her heart, for
The band around her finger was his
Heart. Yes, the tears coursed down
Her face, but the memories were in
Her heart.
