Have Not Poem by Phil Whittaker

Have Not

Rating: 5.0

To have love is to have hate
a funny phrase my friend said to me.
Hate contains the prefix of hate
love has the suffix,
always the sufferer.
Is this why we hate to love and love to hate,
just to have?
Love can be so suffocating
hatred can feel so pretense.
Lovin' is easy, when you let go,
hatred is easier; when you really can't.
You should learn both sides of the coin,
if you want to play this game.
Distance can often lead to indifference.
Distant indifference leads to solitude.
In this case.
My smile is endearing,
Your sneer is irritating.
Her aura is enchanting,
adulating.
This armour? Engaging.
Engagement of emotions requires a certain..
something,
Now, A certain something engages our emotion.
An emotion,
surely pure hatred, that's a mentality
pure love? A devotion.
To you,
my attentive believers
please explain how to have either,
can ever be,
Just an emotion.

To be had,
and forgotten.
