Happiness Matters Poem by Miss Tee

Happiness Matters

Rating: 5.0

I'm not waiting for your approval,
or your permission.
I don't want or need you to tell me
what I should do,
who to see or what I need to feel.
I'm waiting for you to see
that there's more to me
than what you want to perceive.

I feel like I don't have the freedom
to be who I am.
You have not the right to do this to me:
To burden and weigh me down
until I cannot breathe.
I am young,
I have much to look forward to,
and it just isn't right
that I must follow thee.

I got more to say,
but no one to share it with.
I am growing,
beyond this world that we live in
Hoping for independence
and security I seek.

You have not delve
or undertaken the task
of my search.
My soul is more complex
and has depth that is unexpected.

You have made me to feel like I do not appreciate,
or have gratitude for what you bring to the plate.
I feel misunderstood,
words misconstrued.

Do you not realize:
I do not wait for your approval,
or your permission to be who I am? ?
I simply need you to accept
that I am the one to choose the path.

You have given me the greatest price of all:
birth but you must not expect
that I should live for you only.
I need MY life
and my happiness matters as well.
