Happiest Moments: Deluded Bliss Poem by Nika McGuin

Happiest Moments: Deluded Bliss

Rating: 5.0

I remember when
I used to care
I cared about everyone
and I thought - no
I believed, they cared too

The world was a simple place
back then, I followed my heart
and gave freely of it

Wisdom and logic are heavy concrete entities
dense, with rough prickly exteriors
The worst part about getting old
is growing wiser; you see...

Some of my happiest moments in life
were delusional, with a complete lack
of wisdom or logic - but!
my heart was light and abundant

With each year gained
the blinders slip a centimeter
and then an inch
I look around grasping
for my loved ones
but they're worlds away

Just what happened?
I thought we were closer
I thought you said you cared

Oh, I remember when
I truly felt you cared
how happy we seemed then
how easy life seemed
such ignorance, such bliss!
the imaginary love I miss
is such as this
