hope
favor
undeserved
and poles apart

mentored by a big brother
gentle, surrogate mother
who's willing to span

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Picture the ugly duckling, the raising of Tarzan by the apes, all the way to the taking in of foster children (unpaid) and on-the-job mentoring (unrequired) .

The arkquain is a poetry form created by John Madison Shaw, Sr. who uses the penname, Arkbear. Arkquains follow these guidelines: 12 lines with (1) break between each 4-lined stanza, a total of (2) breaks, and a total of (3) stanzas. Syllable count is: 1-2-3-4 break 5-7-7-5 break 4-3-2-1. The two (7) syllable lines, must use *end* rhyme.
