The Kapok Tree Poem by Reason A. Poteet

The Kapok Tree

Do not wish on dandelions
makes a difference if you're Mayans.
Their winds blow through sacred tree,
the pod and seed.

If your spirit near her limbs
falls foul play to evil whims
when you wish on kapok tree
your spirit's freed.

Thorns are sharp and numerous
to keep her safe from gluttonous,
grazing animals

As bats and birds sip her nectar,
thorns step in as her protector.
When you wish on kapok tree
she hails, 'Godspeed.'
