Glimpses From A Train Poem by Susy Evelyne

Glimpses From A Train

Rating: 4.5

Dog swimming
Couple strolling
Waves scalloping the shore...

Yacht sailing
Toddler waving
But I have many miles in store.

For I'm a traveller, passing through so fancy-free.
A traveller, with my window on the sea.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Wrote this poem around 2007 while on a train from Exeter to Torquay. Near Dawlish the tracks run alongside the beach, so passengers can have their own window on the sea. Published in Bright & Breezy: Little poems of joy (2012) .

PostScript Sept 2014. Travelled again on this fantastic train journey between Newton Abbot and Exeter in Devon and the railway, now fully repaired, is just as before - the waves lapping the sand at Paignton and Dawlish just a few feet from the train window. I heartily recommend this journey to anyone on a glorious fine day

Alas - the place of inspiration for this poem, the railway line at Dawlish, has been savaged by the raging seas of January 2014. Until the line can be repaired, this wonderful journey must remain a memory.
