Ghost Poem by Edward Rhodes

Ghost

As I walked home the other day, I knew
That he was there with me, not far behind
I could not see him, his reflection find
And yet it was no dream, nothing untrue
The years since I last heard from him are few
For he is never too far from my mind
His words bear bitter fruit though they seem kind
Again he comes to follow me, and you
For as he followed you a little while
You saw this ghost from long departed years
Who wears a mask but looks so much like me
And when you did dismiss him with a smile
I turned and walked away, to hide my fears
And run from him, this man I used to be
