Food Prep Poem by Amy J Richardson

Food Prep

Chop the apples
carrots and oranges
give scraps to the dog that begs,
add monkey nuts
and meilepap
peel eight of the boiled eggs,
put in figs
half the yoghurt
and leftovers from last night,
with garlic cloves
peeled and sliced
and all that should do just right.
Baboons done
tortoises now
a portion for big and for small,
carrot apple
spinach and 'pap
and dog biscuits mixed in it all.
Just as above
Less the dog food
But a dollop of yoghurt quite big,
mix it well
in her silver bowl
and that will do nicely for pig.
Then half a carrot
three lettuce leaves
will feed the rabbit just fine,
four chunks of meat
for meerkat Twok
and Calsup to help with his spine.
Clean the water
bring a fresh dish
and start the bottles to warm,
water milk
nestum too
should keep all the baboons on form.
We can't forget
the horses and sheep
a bucket at dusk and at dawn,
the sheep just pellets
a sprinkle of grass
but the horses get sugar and corn.
Now back to food prep
clean it all up
make it all tidy and then
wash the floor
and get ready
to start it all over again.
In the afternoon
we repeat this all
The animals have two meals a day,
we just keep chopping it up
and dishing it out
to keep the beggers at bay.
