Female Spiders Poem by Eugene Levich

Female Spiders

They came out of the sea
Those amoebas that became we
Some of these amoebas developed into spiders
Female spiders kill their male partners
After sex
And devour them
"Yum, yum! Tasty! "

Haven't they heard about gender equality?
Or just about being nice?
Those males had given them
Presumably a good time in the web
And then provided them with myriad babies

Why do they kill them?
Is it because there are no spider divorce attorneys?
And what does this male arachnocide
Tell us about human women today,
Descended from the same amoebas
Out of the sea
As those murderous female spiders?

Gino, this shall now adorn my/our July 2017's 'showcase'. thanks. how is your health these days, by friend? in July, which features (almost) all male poets, i am listing the poets' names and the links to the poems. i am not copying and pasting the poems into the showcase. so there is no longer (for now at least) a length limit and i can quite easily put in more poems in less time. bri :) thanks.

ok, ha ha ha. very FUNNY! but, lest we males start to tremble while opening a pack of condoms, read this from Wikipedia: Despite these examples and many other similar reports, however, the theory of the sacrificial male has become greater than the truth. Mating of spiders is not always followed by cannibalism. Indeed, scholars have noted that the supposed aggressiveness of the female spider towards the male is largely a myth and that cannibalism only occurs in exceptional cases.[2][3] Even so, spider cannibalism has been shown to occur in some species more than in others, mainly species belonging to Latrodectus. There has always been speculation on why this sacrifice of male mates might occur despite the obvious disadvantage to the sacrificial males. One theory is that once the male has mated, he is unlikely to mate again and so any further extension of his life is of lesser evolutionary benefit than his indirectly contributing nutrition to the eggs. Having more offspring would give the male the advantage of having his genes passed on over other males that might avoid being eaten. This scenario would be consistent with Roberts’ hypothesis that old or unfit males get eaten, whilst younger and fitter ones may survive to mate again.[3] OF COURSE, female humans have managed to find other ways to get their kicks from males. e.g. using a boyfriend's or husband's credit card............to the MAX! of course some male humans have been known (not me of course) to eat some female humans. i don't know if there are any law schools to train spider attorneys. but a couple of my exes did use sneaky snakes to divorce me! this comment reminds me of one of my poems: Snake, Lawyer, Stick …… [divorce; Courtroom Humor? ; Not Personal; Short-Medium] - Poem by Bri Edwards now Female Spiders shall invade Section C of January 2017's showcase. i'll get it in when PH cooperates! ! ! thanks. bri :) and to MyPoemList
