Far From Me, Near Me
Far from the reach of my protective wing,
you fly on your own, battered and afraid,
while I sit here upon a tree and sing
of your return to the safe nest we made.
Far from the field of my safeguarding view,
you wander in the dark without a chart,
while I glow brightly, a lighthouse for you
till you sail back to the warmth of my heart.
Far from my touch, far from my sight, but in
my thoughts forever; next to me
in imaginings way stronger than reality,
this is how my love dreams. Dear one, hear me;
Nothing can divide us, not even time or space,
for we are joined weightless, endless in an embrace.

Lovely poem. At some point the nest becomes empty but we are joined by love in heart. Loved the last lines. Your poem reminded me of a poem of mine ‘ An Amazing Flight’ though it explored a different emotion but sprouted from the same root cause. Empty nest! Thanks for sharing.
