(Shroud of Turin)
I have seen the face of Christ imprinted upon a shroud
That wrapped him, blood stains showing agonies suffered
Body, back and front, covered with marks from a Roman lash
Nose broken, lips lacerated, face swollen, wounds of nails
Contusions below closed eyes, marks of a crown of thorns
Shoulders bruised from carrying a heavy wooden cross.
On right side of the body between two ribs, a spear wound
Thrust into the heart, where water flowed after death not blood.
Figure imprinted upon shroud like a photographic negative
Man of about 30 years of age, five feet eleven inches tall
Bearded, long haired, who I know is the Lord Jesus Christ,
Showing the suffering he endured crucified by Roman soldiers.
Looking at the face awed and humbled by his love for humanity
Suffering so much as Sacrificial Lamb giving us Salvation.
This poem resonates with me. So very true.. He suffered so much as sacrificial lamb to give salvation.
