Expectations Set In Stone Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Expectations Set In Stone

"Those expectations set in stone.
Leave them!
Leave them alone."

No intention do those young,
Prepare for old age to come.
Except in places where they are reminded,
Of retirement and its benefits.
With a job to get providing this.

"Those expectations set in stone.
Leave them!
Leave them alone."

A mind restricted to daily steady habits.
And limited in experiences.
Without exploring to adventure,
The diversity of opportunities.
Done to ignore finds this to regret.
As the sunset appears,
Nearing upon their doorsteps.
Causing them to fear what's next.

"Expectations set in stone.
For those young,
Leave them alone!
Those expectations set in stone,
Left crushed by a future...
No one can predict to condone the unknown."

Those today young and living their lives.
Should only stay observant.
And refuse to be servants,
To delusion that confuses...
Ignorance to permit it lived.
With this to believe,
A mind kept like this provides benefits.

"Expectations set in stone.
Leave them where they are.
Left alone.
Those expectations to set in stone.
Leave them.
Leave them alone.
And live your life.
Unrestricted to condone.
And live your life.
Unrestricted to condone.
And live your life.
Not to fear the unknown! "
