Evolution Poem by Miracle Quist

Evolution

if deceit
could be given a face & a name
it would be you.

you evolved
you had me in the loins
of your lies & I got hooked up.
too blind to see
the fork within your tongue
that resonated little doses of
what life would be like with you.

but silly me,
I never stopped,
to listen to the scared voice
of the silent echoes of truth or maybe I did listen
but your seeming love
enveloped every doubt
& I fell. headlong into your arms

- pain, make-up sex, pain, kiss, pain -

hoping that you'll change
even after the welts on my back
spoke otherwise.

now
regret has become my companion
& the smile tattooed to my face
by your punches
has become the façade I carry around
like a flag
signalling peace when inside my heart
screams. to die. to be free. to unlove.

I want to leave
I wish I could
but you've broken my pride
you've damaged my self worth
you've caged me with threats
& now my heart seeks another way out.

maybe I'll end it all
& be free from the pain
maybe I'll get a sniper or two
then maybe you'll rest

from your labours

from your EVOLution..
