Emptiness Poem by Nelson Enemuo

Emptiness

Rating: 2.5

Tick tock Tick tock
The lazy man stares
Tick tock Tick tock
his time flashes past in haste
Uncle Hunger jealously visits
Tick tock Tick tock
Fantasy encroaches to lay waste
Crime, his heart slyly embraces
Tick tock Tick tock
A soul sojourns in despair.

Tick tock Tick tock
Wealth walks in silently
Acquaintances and comrades transpire
Tick tock Tick tock
Friends eulogise the latest lad
The new ‘Boo' graces the Bars
Tick tock Tick tock
The drinks flow round in crates
Naira lubricates the lasses
Tick tock Tick tock
Wealth bolts boisterously
Companions turn foes
Tick tock Tick tock
Aunty Poverty stops over for dinner.

Tick tock Tick tock
Behold! The socialite ‘Bae'
The ‘Slay' queens Queen
Tick tock Tick tock
She blazes away in front of her mirror
She gazes blindly at her caricatured face
Tick tock Tick tock
Her presence makes lads ‘hard'
She revels in the Cat calls
Tick tock Tick tock
Her Facebook tweets Instagram SnapChat shots
They drain her brains with LIKES
Tick tock Tick tock
Her beauty frays
Wrinkles invade her ornamental face irately
Tick tock tick tock
Depression visits with Her kinsmen
The Slain queen withers like harmattan Hibiscus.

Nelson, a few good images here though some lines are over-written (Wrinkles invade her ornamental face irately) . You might immerse yourself in good contemporary poetry (Billy Collins, Mary Oliver) if you want to improve. If you'd like, check out my new website: jeffersoncarterverse.com Let me know how you like it. Yrs, JC
