Eclipse Poem by Quazi Johirul Islam

Eclipse

Father, you said,
‘we must complete our job before the dusk'
Same was echoed in
grandfather's voice that he heard
from the great grandfather,
who was the root of an old tree.
The same bell was rung in every morning of prospects.

Gradually this verse like holy-book
flowing towards newer generations
‘we must complete our job before the dusk'
But as like as every past episode
nothing of us are done yet, O Father, look,
we haven't done anything yet, what a grave-dark
is crawling down to our independence;
it is quite visible that all our achievements
are being doomed in deep dark.

Father, I don't want to convey the same old message
to my son. Rather I would like to tell loudly
in his eardrum, son, you better learn
how to coop with darkness, because you
and your future generations
shall live in eclipse many more years.
