Duplicity Poem by Mike Smith

Duplicity

Rating: 5.0

A single sliver of sunshine bends its way around the side of my curtain
Bringing morning light to my cold, quiet bedroom
The rays give life to the smoke surrounding me
Inciting a dance from the curls and rings
Forever shifting from one shape to the next
Interacting, becoming entangled, combining even
Or dispersing into a screen of grayish blues
And I can't help but be fascinated by the beauty of it
To sit, in perfect stillness and silence
Witnessing this acrobatic display before me
This dance of vile cancerous fumes
It's breathtaking

Are you any relation to Snuffy? I am an avid comic collector ending around 1975 with few exceptions. Sunday comics that is. I shall further explore your efforts

Not familiar with Snuffy. But I will look him up. Thank you Wes for reading

It's amazing to note how wonderfully you portrayed the event so trivial, by far. Enjoyed reading. x

Thank you Jayatissa. Sometimes very simple things can strike us as spell bounding. This was such a case

Whoa Mike! I remember Kelly telling you that he would have given more than a 10 for 'Out of Reach'.. For me it is this one. The metaphor of sun as something that looks beautiful from a huge distance, but is terrible in its actual self is amazing! It is like the nearly archetypal metaphor of moths drawn to flame, only that you have presented it in a perfect manner to the T, and have amplified it, re-constructed it, and RE-INVENTED it! ! I am in love with this poem mate.. This is once again, a fine work of poetic brilliance that you have.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Your interpretation of it is fascinating. You have found a deeper meaning than I had truly intended, but it is a good one. One I did not see until you pointed it out. Thanks as always for your feedback

When the sun is finally far enough north to pour through my window, I too watch with intensity as smoke does its thing in shafts of light. It is mesmerizing and quite interesting to see air currents and convection. A very detailed and image packed poem of a snippet of life. a10

It's a bit mesmerizing. Very appeasing visually... if you can keep from thinking about how toxic that smoke actually is. Thanks Kelly
