It was just a pebble that caused me to trip,
And then I was falling, falling from the ship.
Next came the ocean, murky and blue,
The waves rode over me- there was nothing I could do.
At first I tried screaming, without a result,
My mouth filled with water, I gagged on the salt.
I tried and I tried to think it all through,
It had happened so fast, what did I do?
I could feel my old trainers dragging me down,
To the depths of the ocean where I feared I would drown.
Panic was rising but I was still sinking,
Water masked my vision, I had to keep blinking.
I already knew, as I took my last breath,
That drowning would be the cause of my death.
That that remained of the sun's amber light,
Turned into darkness as I gave up my fight.
I had a dear friend of mine drown, while saving another friend of ours....a long time ago, Fourth of July weekend.I still bothers me to be near the ocean, on that holiday. The mighty strength of the water, should be respected...as she quickly and u kindly swallowed my friend, and all the dreams he had. Wonderful poem, for such a young talent. PEACE
