I read the letter you sent,
Not once but twice.
The salutation was so nice.
'Dear' was the way it started,
So whey am I now so broken hearted.
You with your steel toed shoes,
You, with nothing to lose.
Did you have to step on my heart,
With words so cold, giving no thought
To what I've been through my whole
Life long,
Did you have to take away my heart's
Sweet song.
I am leaving this place where I hung
My heart,
You said, 'Be gone you fool! ' and that's
Enough of that!
Your voice had not a hint of warmth,
Your face, no smile.
I am leaving, feeling like a throw-away child.
I hope you feel better since you stole my joy,
My golden sun,
I'll find a new home, where there will be
A true and honest love and a new golden sun.
There is some place out there, where love
Cease
And it upon my heart will feast.
Good-bye I say to you yet the question
Lingers as I depart,
Why did you have to step on my heart.

Sad poem, a different touch from your pen. Tears. Indeed. It is the cold sight of those we love that hurts the most.. Step on the heart with steel toed shoes such powerful image of pain. Excellent read, thank you for sharing!
