Desire Poem by Tracy Craighead

Desire

It's a secret I have, a little break in a lonely night
Warmth in the darkness, a gentle touch
Finally, I see a glimpse of light.
You were hidden, but I felt you
there in the sliver so bright
A piece of heaven, giving hell respite

Lingering in a moment, killing all desire
To fly above, to move forward,
Just to walk past the fire.
But still in these last hours, when I'm not on guard,
I feel your hand on my breast, grazing my thigh
And I am thrust back into the flame,
Passion filling my head, a flagrant high

I wish I could stop these pervasive thoughts.
The absence of restraint, in this sticky spot.
I steel myself for a sweet memory
Of the first moment, you set me free.
Judgment aside....I can't sleep
Without you touching me,
Something to cling to in this night...
Someone to rescue me from
The light
