Deep Breaths Poem by judi spence

Deep Breaths

Deep breaths, let them go
Take it in, take it slow
You've waited so long
Embrace the moment
You finally found your way
Deep breaths, your free

You return again to the one thing
That continues to deprive you of everything
With hopes that this time will bring change
The walls come down again
Your back where you began
What have you done to deserve
These cards that you've been served
Freedom is in your hands
It comes at your command
But you've lost yourself
You know not what is left
You lick your wounds over
Try to take it all in sober
But you only make it worse
Numbness surpasses the hurt
Deep breaths, find yourself

You no longer can produce the tears
Along the way they disappeared
The pain subsided long ago
You see no end to this road
You think you've became stronger
It helps you endure it longer
But the world seems so cold
When you face it on your own
Scared to move on you stay
Knowing you are not where you belong
Deep breaths, comfort yourself
