Deadly Game (Hexastichon)

Ace of Spades, Ace of Hearts
These used to be an excellent pair of cards
But now they possess venom that imparts
A deadly game, breaks life into shards
Shredded futures and nullified chances
There are no winners.... from these substances.

poet Sir Walter Scott

The moon's on the lake, and the mist's on the brae,
