Dark Angel Poem by Amanda Swain

Dark Angel

Wings turn black as blood runs free
She looks to the sky for a chance to see
For one last glimpse of heaven’s tree
In the clouds pure as a dove
She glimpses nothing high above
A lone black tear runs from her eye
As she screams towards the sky
‘Dear God, please, tell me why? ’
No one answers to her prayer
Not even a whisper to say he’s there
She looks up, standing in the night
Where the gates were, there’s just a light
Then it starts to fade away
Shadows scream where she must stay
Her soul is broken, her will stays whole
Now the bell begins to toll
Darkness paints the walls and ground
Because she made a demons sound
The silence echoes, the shadows scream
Now she wants it to be a dream
Where all is not as it seems
The sky is dark, the darkness bold
She now remembers that she was cold
Now she looks up to a darkened sky
Because she now knows the reason why
She had been darker than she thought
It wasn’t demons she had fought
It was angels blood she spilled
It was His servants she had killed
The ground is wet with tainted tears
As she realizes her fears
Daylight comes with Heaven’s king
And the bell ends its third ring
As He looks to see who sings
It’s a beautiful angel with blackened wings
Even the demons weep and mourn
For a voice of crystal that’s pained and torn
She sings alone, a soul forlorn
The pity is clear in angel’s eyes
They wish her soul could purify
That she might regain her purest light
So she may shine in the shadows dark as night
Now they hear the words of her song
‘I’m screaming, bleeding, cutting along
The line of my life thinking, where do I belong?
Down my body red rivulets flow
I’ve committed a crime, I’m condemned to below
My will exists but I’ve lost my soul
Where they were in my heart, there’s a hole’
The song ends and then they know
That she knows well that she must go
Into the fire deep down below
Then she’s gone and carved on the wall
‘Dark angel has seen the blood of all
The blood which is upon this wall
Dark angel fights when shadows reign
The very shadows that have caused your pain
Dark angel is ready when demons call
For she spills their blood in any hall
Dark angel is death, forever more
May she bear the pain that’s in store’
