Eternal Sleep Poem by Amanda Swain

Eternal Sleep

If I go to sleep one night
And the day, I do not wake
Pray that I fall towards the light
Not the fire for my sake
I’ve always dreamed of eternal sleep
I’ve prayed to god my soul to keep
But if I die before the day
What would my family say?
I’ve always wanted infernal slumber
But do I want them to hear that number?
I’m no longer sure about my past
Or whether I want to come home at last
But I do know that I can’t leave
For there is someone counting on me
When she goes I’ll die inside
Until then, I’ll keep my pride
Until then…I’ll stay alive
