Dancing With Rain Poem by Steve Gregory

Dancing With Rain

I hear you tapping on my window,
I saw you running down the street,
I know how impatient you are when
You fall upon the floor and bounce
Across the gardens with the wind at
Your back, speeding you onwards
And drowning all shouts to run and
Hide inside the shelter of a tree spreading
Branches that is no shelter at all.
I feel the pain of your dissipation as
You splatter old and young alike and
Throw yourself upon the shoulders
Of the young girl in the silky top,
You smile as you rush across the traffic
Ignoring warnings not to cross, you
Stop for no one and everyone gets
Touched by your embrace, they run
To try and dodge you but you take no
Offence as you catch them on the run
And soak them before the door is closed.
I hear you, Rain, you feel no pain as you
Pour iridescent colours across the stone
Grey sky and spread your sloppy kisses
Upon the now soaked ground, to feed the
Hungry seedlings, that cry out for your
Mirth and know that when you come
Their life is always worth the wait.
Rain you make me happy, even though
Most are sad; I like to hear you tapping
Upon my window in the night just to
Remind me of the tears I've shed for
Loss, and the laughter I've shared with
The dancers in the rain, oh the fame
Of splashing puddles as we tap danced
Through the city, now I'm happy just
To hear the music of the rain.
