Come To Me As My Friend! Poem by sundaram chandrakalaadhar

Come To Me As My Friend!

come to me
in my complexion -
not on your moon-like skin
and sun and star-like glories;
show me the way
and let me negotiate my ascents-
if i trip
extend your arms
as a momentary help,
for me to rise up
and assault my obstacles -
give me the courage
in simplest words
in soothing tone-
cast aside your ornaments
and glittering gold
and come to me bare-chested
as a simple soul
adorned only with the soil
of this patient earth -
come as my equal
and spread your arm
on my sweating shoulder
in comradeship and companionship -
i know no words to praise
nor weave into verses
nor have i mastery over language
to flatter you for my cause-
in fact i need nothing from you
i know the art of living
happily within my means -
all i want from you
is friendly chat
and hearty laugh -
while parting with me
leave your dew on my heart!
yes, my god,
come to me
in all your simplicity!
