Colour Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Colour

don't be in awe of the
Inauthenticity found in museums
have the curiosity of a child
about the removal of pieces
from historical artifacts
which is meant to teach a cultural
history in times more modern.
No lie you can tell
be powerful enough to quell
what is true
because deliberately,
you're pushing an agenda
when disguising its appearance
As if you haven't done enough,
We don't need your interference
We don't have the same
experiences
We don't have none of your
privileges
let's tread the lines
between love and hate
A path you've chosen
to try and not debate
interactions with the police
often leads to death
but any case outside similar encounters
is met with sympathy, now why is that?
white people do X, black people do Y,
but all of humanity is doing Z
Stereotypes are put into place
to limit us socially
when there's a crisis
you'll become decisive
and it's an epidemic that effects the globe
but when color come into play you can't treat the virus
How do we live equally when there's so much bigotry?
He who knows no better will think that he is clever
and he's given his time while putting in the effort
to maintain that world of supremacy
and when we fight against the powers that be
it's to reach a world of revolution
yeah, everything the devil touches doesn't turn to gold
Man is supposed to keep the laws and will be scold
but how do we know what's the right religion,
when what we've been taught is overshadowed
by pagan months, days and traditions?
Resentment creates a world full of division
where opposing sides see through different lenses
is the trauma of your wrongs too much for you to face?
it's the trauma of these wrongs the community can not escape
you can not deflect this issue with excuses
when you can see our physical world has been polluted
but choose to dismiss the tragic experiences of a minority
under a microscope you can see that there is irony
When there's a king or queen who have inner security
They'll be able to stand against the face of tyranny
and the shackles of captivity
doesn't effect the mind of those at liberty
