Clan Poem by Sahra Hussein

Clan

What can I say about it?
Day by day situations are getting harder and harder
What can I say about this hard situation?
People are encouraging each other to fight rather to solve it
What can I say about a son who is killing his uncle?
What can I say about a brother who is killing his brother-in-law?
What can I say about a husband who is killing his wife?
What can I say about a father who is sending his daughter where her dreams will be destroyed?
What can I say about all of these events when our clans are causing them?
Sometimes hard situations force you to cut one of your hands
But what can I do about it when my heritage drives me to cut one of my hands?
How can I laugh, eat, drink, and celebrate after I cause one of my hands to experience such pain?
What can I do about it when my people are proud for repeatedly making these mistakes?
How can I measure the emotions of a million mothers who lost their children?
How can I measure the emotions of a million girls who were hurt and raped?
How can I measure the emotions of a million children who are homeless?
How can I feel happy and safe when all of these things happen around me?

such a poem would be good in the Anthology.. but its theme (Anthology) is more linked to 'Terrorism'.. even if the 2 might be just 2 sides of a same coin..

a beautiful and painful 'song & elegy', Sahra! 'sending his daughter where her dreams will be destroyed' // 'my heredity drives me to cut one of my hands' The answer to such a terrible reality can be only one: Culture. No guns, no violence.. A culture revolution. But it's a long way, unfortunately..
