Chronophobia Poem by Eugene Levich

Chronophobia

Sometime in the future the Sun will explode and destroy the Earth.
What then will this poem be worth...

Or anything else for that matter?

Since neither you nor I nor anyone else will still be here.

The plays of Sophocles, Euripides, and Shakespeare
Our long lost loves
Our kids and their kids and their kids and their kids
The Iliad
The Mozart operas
Your kindergarten teacher
(Mine was named Miss Ola
She was from Norway.
She promised to marry me when I grew up!
She didn’t.)
The Alhambra, the Taj Mahal,
M. L. King’s Letter from the Birmingham Jail
The Magna Carta and Bill of Rights
Blue herons and Gazelles
The Holy Scriptures, the Koran, the Buddhist sutras
The Venus de Milo and the works of Michelangelo
And Leonardo
Da Vinci and DiCaprio
The bravery of the Marines on Iwo Jima
The Tang dynasty poets, the works of Verlaine
The Mets’ 1986 World Series Win
All of these will be gone, gone, gone
As the solar flames engulf the Earth
And the flames come hurtling down.

Not that it’s going to happen anytime soon.
But it makes you wonder what life is all about,
Doesn’t it?

and yet I heard this morning that Nature has permanence in mind by giving us our minds

And Leonardo Da Vinci and DiCaprio...............these lines made me smile. :) yes, it does (the poem) make me tempted to think what's it all about [wasn't there a song something like that in a movie? ], BUT i'd rather not think about it. i'd rather live it and then be done with it. perhaps memories will outlive the cataclysm? gino, after this line: The Mets’ 1986 World Series Win wouldn't you LIKE TO add Eugene Levich and Bri Edwards? i would! thanks for sharing. :) bri

I question this constantly! Have had the same dream 3 times since I was about eight years old of the sun exploding, sequence of events leading up all the same and same results and feelings after. This poem asks the question I constantly ponder. If only we knew the answer. But maybe it's better not to know. Thanks for this Eugene!
