Christmas that cant fill up this Heart

there is something about christmas eve
a million things cant fill up in this heart
a glittering christmas gift laden tree cant cheer up

an emptiness trails the snow
that lightly, steadily, smoothens
the landscape with white

the steps of carolling singers
from house to house
land louder than their songs
on this heart that tries to
make merry for the night
without knowing why

as the night dims and silence
to a mere glittering tree by the window
one is left wondering whether the night
would have been as well spent alone, praying
and reflecting on Christ himself
instead of all the raucuous ceremonies

how he had walked, bearing a cross alone,
all alone towards Calvary so that our soul
would be cleansed of sins, a plain of white
glorious as snow for God

I am very touched. Your beautiful, reverent poem has placed a light in the window for the Christ Child. He will surely visit your house on Christmas Eve. Take care.

Kindest regards,

Sandra

would have been as well spent alone, praying

we are blessed with this Godly poem
