Carried Away By The Notes-A Poem In Memory Of William Bertrand Wilson Iii-'85-04'

Carried away by the notes
Coerced by a song
My ears let the reality in.
Little by little
Note by note
My eyes realized all I’d kept hidden
The salty replications of the sea dispensed;
Finally I allowed my mind to be burden ridden.
The words, the sounds, the associations indicated
At long last captivated by the person he produced in me and others.
His memory flows through me
I can’t help but listen….
But the radio only duplicates a similar song;
It’s synthetic,
Not real,
And it will never compare to his actual presence…
Walking with that identifiable. yearning pride
He lit some with a priceless incandescence
Striking a match with a voice of pride
He spread his incomparable fire,
And my addiction is indestructible
I will never burn so bright
My most brilliant embers shall go out to who he was,
And as my life goes on, I shall burn in his name,
And others, too, will make this fire shine bright,
Burning orange, red, and blue.
I hope to hold a ceremony dedicated to William Bertrand Wilson IV tonight
And these colors, thoughts, and appreciations shall continue to follow and exude his name.
None can compare
He renovated my soul,
Opened up my heart,
Developed my mind,
And made plans,
Pencils produced uncertain sketches and words
First seen as a thought,
Driven by our hands,
That were finally transcribed as ideas inspired by our hearts….
I still see him in me,
For he was torn away without warning…
And we were vines growing together
Stems, branches, leaves intertwined,
He left a piece of himself
In me and in others,
So we’ll bloom in his name
Grow with him…..hold him close as we grow …..and gain strength together in his memory
