Candle March Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Candle March

Rating: 5.0

It was peace march with protest
Thousands of people with candles without rest
Gloomy atmosphere with lots of pain
Humanity was at loss and grief was seen

She was from far village and belonged to nobody
Yet she has become embodiment of everybody
She is no more among us but has left the ray of hope
Her sacrifice and agony shall ever remain and not flop

"Rarest of rare" shouted the small school going girl
To the perpetrators and must feel death in turn
They must die slowly and before the masses
They should be taught lesson never heard in classes

What have they gathered for without any leaders?
Silent march to open the eyes of law providers
"In two days "she may be forgotten from memory
The law shall remain blind with no worry

We lack the strong resolve and are carried away
By cast sentiments and sometimes by people sway
The presidential reprieve powers and cabinet decision
All are responsible for the law's deterioration

"Damini"* your death has awakened us and we shall
Fight for justice against all those for pushing you to wall
You were to serve more to the services of people
Alas! You have been mercilessly struggled

"Ask not about her body condition" the doctor was in pain to explain
Her body was seen as if pounced upon by wild animals in rain
Total disregard for human soul and her body consciousness
Even by hearing the news we have painful lines on face

Since Gandhiji's* peaceful and disobedience march
This was the biggest and silent candle search
If not in day light then in candle's light
We can demonstrate will and right to fight

*Damini.. Girl's name…Gandhiji.. Father of the nation

Sabeen Rashid True. A nation awakened, anger unleashed, a million voices raised. We are a nation of one billion. Every voice counts, let's make this a huge movement, a crusade against injustice shown towards our women. Let's keep our stuggle alive, and bring about a change. Let's make our nation civilized. Let's educate our men to treat women with respect. RIP, Damini, hope you become the wake up call our nation needs. Thank you for echoing our thoughts through this poem. 9 minutes ago · Unlike · 1

Ayesha Nigam likes this. Ayesha Nigam I hope the government stops pledging and show some speedy action, cos justice delayed is justice denied. We, the public, should not let our energy dissipate and keep our pressure on until effective rape laws are put into action to send a strong message to all potential rapists. RIP, braveheart, may you find peace now. And all you males out there, learn to be MEN and stop treating women like objects. 13 minutes ago · Unlike · 1
