By The Breath Of A Winters Rose

Rating: 5.0

One thought echoed in the caverns of my mind
where have all the flowers gone?
have they retreated beneath the frozen soil
grasping at the tethered straws of refuge
that could shield them from the gaze of the winter wind
or are they just sleeping
like the fallen princess of fabled myth
waiting to rise again in the rays of the coming spring
I was there in the empty barren field
I the humble traveler
who wandered beneath the stars of twinkling night
seeking my own precious flower
that I could capture and make my own
not to adorn the arena of my empty home
but bring me solace and comfort on those lonely nights
knowing that its sweet drifting fragrance
would waft through the air of my abode
and give me the company my heart had been searching for
I had almost given up my quest
so sure that all the others had been plucked
by the lucky hand of the fated man
and found fancy in the arms of the graciously gifted
until my eyes saw the flicker of a light in the distance
and as I neared it I saw that wondrous beauty before me
a single withering rose
weeping in its cradle of contorted solace
left to the wrath of the bitter cold
so I took it from it's resting place and warmed it in my arms
there against my heaving chest
as it slept to the rhythm of my beating heart
I nourished it with my affection and attention
And watered it with my creative inventions
for I was the endless vessel of giving love
and I poured it freely upon her
and as she grew in her trust she became to know me
as an entity that was the man beyond the dotting pen
as the lines slowly began slipping in their blur
from her acquaintance and simple friend
to something more that was formerly felt
as on that sacred night I held her in her naked wealth
and we consummated an attraction we found there
that had long been whispered in silent prayers
and we merged as there in our loving bliss as one
and as the sun came dancing in it's gleeful blaze
on the feathered puffs of the waking day
I knew that my search was over at last
and that I had been blessed with her elegant kiss
the one who found her there in the freezing mist
and my lonely heart had been saved
from the flames of it's searing ache
held in a love that was deemed so true
that was tapped by destiny's divine touch
to become my waking reality and so eternally real
as I was mended and internally healed
by the breath of a winters rose
