Broken Poem by Thoughts of a Single Man

Broken

Rating: 5.0

I am lost
marooned on the island on misfit toys
where the lost memories
of little girls and boys are left
discarded
once they have been used
once they have been abused
played with far too long
as their images fade
like the lost notes of a forgotten song
I am the wanderer
seeking my path in the road called life
as I search the reels
in the cerebral cinema of my mind
passing the windows of others
who seem so enchanted
and take so much for granted
children and a wife
I write in the drops of the healing ink
liquid pain
the leaks from my brain
prayers whispered in the dead of night
tears that fall
like shadows on an endless wall
and so I stand
in the shatter of the breaking dawn
I can see forever
on the empty pages
leaving quotes of a oath
made so long ago
tell me
does that make me clever
witty and brilliant
resolved and resilient
I think not
I am simply a man
who hears the voice of his soul
as it weaves its way
through the twirling pen
as I sit here in my solace
waiting to rescued
or perhaps just to be heard
these silent words that are seen
but never spoken aloud
beneath the breath
of the shifting clouds
here with no one with me
hoping someone can come to my aid
strip away the shades of my grey
find the scattered pieces of my puzzle
and fix me
for until then I shall continue to be
broken
