Food For Thought Poem by Thoughts of a Single Man

Food For Thought

Rating: 5.0

I sprinkle my thoughts upon this page like seasoning in a pot

I let them simmer as the ink marinates and marks a spot

the scent that arises makes the hungry mouth and mind drool

As I prepare a course that's full of plates served both hot and cool

the centerpiece prepared is the meat of my work juicy and so tender

that if you sink your teeth in it I am sure it's flavor is long remembered

the sauce I pour over it is a recipe all my own

drawn from a heart that's been torn apart like liquid siphoned from a stone

the side dishes that flesh out the table range in temperature and heat

the cold come from my solitude while my pain provides the heat

and of the are vegetables are also added to this show

for my hopes dreams and joy spring from the garden where they grow

my mind knows all these ingredients for my soul has saved them all

like pages of a cookbook hanging on a kitchen wall

some days the dishes are full of the fire of all the spices known to man

and sizzle like heated grease dripped in a burning pan

the there are days when its covered in frost and the reader feels the chill

like a frozen desert scooped from regrets that haunt and hurt me still

and there are times it is ripe and green so enticing as you dig in

and those are made from joy of a boy who writes from deep within

for every chef has different sides that's why what they create has rage and depth

spoken of by those who have tasted their work and praised with every breath

so I hope that you have enjoyed today's meal until next time my friend

that I return to my mental kitchen to cook with an ink filled pen

I always attempt to give you something robust and never bland

For the cookbook of my life is as endless as….
