Broken Promise Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Broken Promise

Forever was the promise we've made
So young and naive, we really were
To have ever spoken of something
that wouldn't live beyond it's years
We took for granted what we've had
and now faced with days here on earth
alone
Not yet willing to move on
but know the feelings gone

I've stood by you
even when you've done me wrong
There ain't no way I was going to leave you
Because I believed in us
Willing to make the sacrifices
necessary for that future we both were promised

Love is a commitment and
it's sometimes never easy when difficulties arise
I've given you love eventhough you'd cheat and lie
I've cried and cried
after the many arguments and fights
Just could never understand why
you'd leave me all alone on those nights
Was it I who let you slip away
No, you've lost interest and feared
the inevitable but the inevitable would happen
leaving my world to shatter and my heart to break into
a million pieces as you stand there unphased
It hurts like hell, cut like a knife
the way you walked out of my life

never have i dreamed i'd spend one night alone
It feels so empty, it feels so empty in this home
Wrap your arms around me tight
So that i can lose myself in your embrace
like once again it felt so right
each time that i saw your face
I'd melt away
I wish I could feel that feeling again
Not taking two steps backwards but two steps forward
I've got to be strong and move on
I love you and will always love you
but your weakness got the best of you
killing what we've built with time
ending us completely
