Blessed Are We Poem by Parameswaran K V

Blessed Are We

Rating: 5.0

Blessed are we
That we are not
Among those tossing in the sea
In little dinghies
Playing hide and seek
With the sea,
With life and death

Blessed are we
That we are not
Among those rotting on the road
Abandoned by kith and kin
Abandoned by the world
For fear of Ebola
To our own stinking destiny

Blessed are we
That we are not
Among those buried in the ruins
By the relentless rage of earth
Waiting, dead or alive
To see the light of the day.

Blessed are we
That we are not
Among those kneeling under the sword
Of the black clad messengers of hell
Counting seconds,
Hoping against hope
To our inevitable doom.

Blessed are we
That we are not
Among those in the market
Or in the church or the school
Waiting innocently
To be blown up by the devil
Who creep in like our own brethren

Blessed are we
That we are not
Among those fleeing for life
Under the rain of mighty missiles
Not knowing the friend from the enemy
Though which doesn't matter
For what matters was life and death

Blessed are we
That we are among those
Watching the world's dark drama unfold
In the safety of their drawing rooms
In their giant screens
